Punjab and Haryana High Court asks CBI if it is ready to probe Jat stir cases

Sindhu is the Director of Hari Bhoomi Communication Private Limited and a Jat himself. He submitted that while his properties worth Rs 15 crore were burnt down in the February agitation, till date none of the eight accused had been arrested by the police.

“In a way, the police is trying to help the accused persons for the simple reason of government being helpless against the Jat leaders as they are maintaining a constant pressure of further agitation of a higher magnitude,” read Sindhu’s petition.

When the state government’s counsel tried to explain that some persons had been arrested, the court said, “Why are you going for this eyewash? FIR in the case was registered in February. Now there is the Ilaqa magistrate’s report that police have not taken any action. Now you say two arrested. Please file cancellation report if you feel so. Who is stopping you?”

Pulling up the state’s Advocate General office for taking the court for a ride, the court added, “You are not understanding gravity of situation. We want action taken on individual basis. Bringing just computer data would not help.”

Amicus curiae Anupam Gupta pointed out, “It is abysmal level of policing….there is de-facto amnesty in Haryana. Let CBI come and probe.”

He also submitted that even the alleged Murthal gangrape should be handed over to the CBI, pointing out that the recent Mewat gangrape case had already been given to the CBI. “Everything in this case is a camouflage and cover up. They have double standards,” argued Gupta.

IG Mamata Singh, who heads the SIT probing the Murthal case, informed the court Thursday that the forensic report from the CFSL is likely to come within two weeks.

Appearing for Sindhu, senior advocate RS Rai read out Illaqa magistrate’s report, “…undersigned is of the view that investigation till today is not proper in this case as police has not taken any proper step to join the named accused in investigation. Even no efforts were made by the police to trace the unknown accused as mentioned in the FIR.”

Rai further added that the police have not even arrested accused Yoganand, the ex-sarpanch of village Baliana, who was roaming freely.
