Former Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Revanna on Thursday said at the special legislature session, to be held on Friday, the State should, without any discussion on the issue, adopt a one-line resolution not to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
“All political parties should show unity by adopting the resolution. There should be no room for long talks or criticism of the decisions of previous governments,” he said at a press conference. He said the parties in many other States have been standing united on sharing river water with other States.
“In Tamil Nadu, neither the Pattali Makkal Katchi nor the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has spoken anything against the government on this issue. Parties in Karnataka also should stand united,” he said.
He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should not backtrack on the decision to not release water, no matter the consequence.
‘Inauspicious start’
Revanna, who is known for his belief in astrology, also said that the time fixed for the special session was inauspicious. “The session has been scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday. It is ‘Rahukala’, which is not auspicious. The session should have been scheduled at 12 noon,” he said.
