Seven crest gates of Taliperu lifted

September 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:24 pm IST - KHAMMAM:

The inflows into the Taliperu reservoir in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division increased substantially on Thursday owing to incessant rain in the upper catchment areas of the river straddling the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.

The sudden surge in water level in the reservoir prompted the staff manning the medium irrigation project to open seven crest gates to let out surplus water into the Godavari. The water level in the Kinnerasani reservoir in Palvancha mandal inched close to its maximum storage level on Thursday night.

According to sources, the project officials lifted four crest gates of the dam at 9 pm to release 16,000 cusecs of water downstream.
