The Malappuram chapter of the Sahodaya School Complex has exhorted Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools and parents in the district to make use of the board’s special scheme for girls titled Udaan.
Udaan is a CBSE mentoring programme aimed at helping girls to secure admissions to the country’s premier engineering institutions, including IITs and NITs.
About 500 students from Kerala have applied for Udaan this year. The
CBSE will offer online coaching and zonal-level training by experts from IITs. The board will give scholarships to qualified students.
Sahodaya district president M. Jouhar presided over a meeting held at
PES Global School, Puzhakkattiri.
Sahodaya State treasurer M. Abdul Nazar explained the Udaan project. He said among the students securing admissions to IITs, only 27 per cent are girls. “We should work collectively to enhance this figure. We should see to it that more girls reach our premier engineering campuses,” he said.
Sahodaya general secretary Joji Paul, office-bearers P. Nisar Khan, Vineeta Parakkottil, P.A.M. Abdul Khader, A. Sayed, Nirmala Chandran, Fr. Manoj Vettamthadathil, Sr. Ancilla George, Ayub Moovakkan, and A. Sreekala spoke.
