MDI hosts two day conference on importance of corporate ethics
The two-day long conference aimed at exploring the role of Indian Philosophical traditions in strengthening values and ethics at the workplace and creating the right culture for sustainable economic and social development.
GURGAON: Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, hosted a two-day (Sept 22-23, 2016) national level conference on ‘Strengthening Values & Ethics for Sustainable Growth: Role of Indian Philosophical Traditions’ in collaboration with Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi.
Unethical behaviour of an individual in a corporate set-up can adversely affect the growth process of an organization and vice-versa.
Considering the scenario, the two-day long conference aimed at exploring the role of Indian Philosophical traditions in strengthening values and ethics at the workplace and creating the right culture for sustainable economic and social development.
“Learning is an integrated process of self manthan and self chintan. Today, we need to ask ourselves whether we have been able to instill good ethics and values in individuals. Our focus should be on creating a society with right value system without compromising on values," said Prof. C. P. Shrimali, Acting Director, MDI Gurgaon.
Continuing on Conference theme, Prof. S. R. Bhatt, Chairman, ICPR elaborated about dynamic and free nature of a human being. He further added “We think what is good, bad and ugly and act accordingly. There should be a judicial understanding on what to act, how to act and where to act. Its only through proper education, one can acquire knowledge and inculcate one’s skills and values for our actions.”
Tom Albanese, Group CEO of Vedanta Resources, the chief guest at the even emphasized about the coexistence of ethical practices between community and environment. “In today’s time, the definition of ethics change with stakeholders in a company. One must realize that the CSR activities which were made to benefit the underprivileged are making them dependent on it” he concluded.
Swami Prakarshnanda, Chinmaya Mission, the Guest of Honour graced the occasion with his august presence and highlighted about relevance of positive thoughts for human growth. The national conference saw eminent research scholars; academicians and corporate professionals from diverse backgrounds share their views on the distinctive nature of ethics and the ways to integrate traditional values with modern knowledge and management
The conference provided a platform to thought leaders, industry practitioners, business managers, religious leaders, social scientists and academic communities to share their views learn from research findings and chart out a blueprint to gain from the experiences shared.
