Umarkhed riot: MCR for 35, PCR extended for seven

On being produced before the court on Wednesday, the court granted MCR to 35 accused while seven got two more days of PCR.
The cops are still looking for more culprits.
Police sources said a team of top brass from Yavatmal headed by Additional SP Dr Kakasaheb Dhole is camping in Umarkhed to maintain law and order situation. Though the city is limping back to normalcy, there is tension in some areas.
Meanwhile, minister of state for Home Ranjit Patil, regional police commissioner Vithal Jadhav, MLA Bachhu Kadu, Yavatmal SP Akhilesh Kumar Singh and others visited the riot torn city and met representatives of both communities. Leaders of various political parties have demanded action against the real culprits and requested cops not to harass innocents.
There had been similar stone pelting at Umarkhed in 2014. However, the police did not take adequate precautionary measures to thwart such incidents this time, said some citizens.
