Faizabad: A local Samajwadi Party leader moved a local court filing complaint against the chief priest of Ram Janmabhumi temple for calling SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav a traitor. Dr Ashish Pandey, national general secretary of a frontal organisation of Samajwadi Party approached the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Ravindra Gupta urging to register case against chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das with charges of defamation under sections 153B and 500 for calling Mulayam Singh Yadav a traitor.

In a statement given to a television channel, Acharya Satyendra Das had called Mulayam a traitor, in reaction to the latter's statement on killing of VHP 16 Karsewaks in Ayodhya in 1990 for attack on Babri Masjid. Mulayam had said that instead of 16 if he had to take 30 lives to save the Babri masjid he would have done so. In the plaint, Pandey has included senior VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti to be charged under the same sections and pleaded the court to register the case.
Talking to TOI, Pandey said, "I have been organising birthday celebrations regularly for Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav in Ayodhya and organising havans and special prayer services in different temples of Ayodhya and in these programmes a large number of Sadhus and Mahants of Ayodhya take part. Vedanti had termed these godmen fake and saleable. The court has fixed September 24 to register the statement of Pandey.
