Somebody needs to troubleshoot the new movie ‘I.T.’

John Moore’s somewhat diverting thriller is the old “psycho threatens a good man’s family” plot, retrofitted for the age of the smart house. Three quarters of the diversion comes from eternally appealing Pierce Brosnan as the airplane tycoon under siege. The other quarter comes from Anna Friel doing her best as Underwritten Wife, and James Frecheville as the psycho-hacker, ferociously committed to even the campiest demands of the script.

Otherwise, beat by beat, it’s exactly what you’d expect, right down to the camera’s prurient interest in the dewy flesh of Stefanie Scott as the 17-year-old daughter. As for what the movie says about our hyper-connected age, not much — but it will lend itself well to streaming at home while tapping away on your smartphone.
