A five-minute video clip that takes viewers to the places made sacred by Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati is the latest in the cache of offerings posted on websites dedicated to the saint of Kanchi.
The musical homage, filmed by Babushankar, touches the Brindavanam within the Kanchi Math, the Orikkai temple, Thenambakkam, Periyava’s favourite spot for penance, and the memorial building opposite the Kanchi Kamakoti Math in Kanchipuram.
This is one of the nine pieces that go to make a CD called ‘Guru Dakshina,’ a bouquet to as many saints, the others being Agastya, Bodendral, Shirdi Saibaba, Ramana Maharishi, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sri Raghavendra, Madhvacharya and Sri Ramanuja.
Shanthi Suresh, trained in Carnatic music, who has rendered several devotional albums, and Prasanna, a disciple of Neyveli Santhanagopalan, have rendered the songs.
Guru Dakshina will be released tomorrow, Saturday, 4 p.m., at the Music Academy, as part of the three-day Navaratri Naada Vaibhavam, presented by Arun Excello Group.
A musical offering by Shanthi Suresh and Harikatha by Vishaka Hari will follow the release.
The music festival opens today, with the Hindustani concert of Priya Kanungo, an artist from Delhi at 4 p.m.
This will be followed by the vocal concert of Gayatri Venkatraghavan.
