AHMEDABAD: Three teenagers stole an ambulance and went on a joyride in Bapunagar on Wednesday morning. However, the ride put passersby in peril as the boys lost control over the vehicle and hit two persons - a biker and an aged woman. Finally, the jaunt ended with the out-of-control vehicle running into a wall. The trio then abandoned the ambulance and escaped.
Traffic police officials of the H division are now trying to identify the boys by going through footage of CCTV cameras on the route they took.
According to eye-witness statements recorded by the traffic police, the three teenagers had been seen speeding down the Amber Cinema Road.
Senior police officials of H Division police traffic police station said, that they have summoned the ambulance owner Sanjay Chauhan, a resident of Abhilasha apartment in Bapunagar, to know how the teenagers had managed to get into the ambulance and start it.
"When the boys lost control, the ambulance first hit Jatanben Rabari, 60, and then rammed into a bike rider, Jeevandan Vaishnav, 35. The aged woman has suffered injuries in her leg, while the biker has been rushed to a local hospital with grievous head injuries. The boys managed to get away after the ambulance hit a wall," said a police source.
"Even though eye witnesses have identified the three as teenagers we will have to first establish their identities and their ages before booking them for the accident" added a senior police official.
