SURTA: Dipak Pandit, one of the accused in hooch tragedy, was remanded to the police custody till September 28.
Pandit, who was nabbed by the Anti Terrorist Squad from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, was prodcued before a local court on Wednesday. Police sought his custody to investigate the source and distribution of the industrial methanol used to prepare the hooch.
Pandit had allegedly provided methanol to the bootlegger and prime accused Ramu Yadav.
Pandit, a truck driver, had helpted Yadav get in touch with other truck drivers to source the methanol.
"We want to investigate the source of methanol and how it was procured. We also need to find out the exact places from where the chemical was stolen an the nexus among the truck drivers and material in their possession," said B M Desai, deputy superintendent of police, who is investigating officer of the case.
