JAIPUR: Residents of
Hanuman Vatika area, who were demanding regularization of the scheme for long, created ruckus and damaged property at
Jaipur Development Authority (
JDA) headquarters on Wednesday.
A protester also attempted suicide by pouring petrol. However, he was arrested by police.
Nearly hundred residents reached JDA headquarters during day to register their grievances that the regularization camp of Hanuman Vatika, situated at
Kalwar Road, are not being organised.
The protesters were demanding an assurance from JDA authorities to organise the camps to regularise their colonies. However, the protest turned violent after they were stopped to enter the building to meet
Jaipur Development Commissioner (JDC).
Many alleged that officials are not paying heed to their demands. Residents also have claimed that they were carrying out a peaceful protest and only raising slogans against the civic body. However, officials called police and they were pushed outside without getting any assurance.
An official informed, a man who threatened to immolate himself was detained by police. Similarly, other protesters who tried to stop cars of JDA officials were arrested too. A woman protester who attempted to enter the JDA office was also detained.
While talking to media, JDA officials claimed that the camp for the scheme will be organised soon.
