VADODARA: Cops posted at the police stations won't be able to catch that precious wink at midnight or misbehave with the complainants.
A project to install CCTVs across the police stations has been initiated by the city police. The footage from these cameras will be relayed on the smartphones of the police station in-charge and the area's deputy commissioner of police (DCP).
Gorwa
police station went live from Wednesday. "It was the Gorwa police inspector U G Shrimali's initiative to install CCTVs in his police station and monitor them round the clock. We will replicate the project in all other police stations soon. The idea is to keep an eye on the police staff and improve their productivity," said city police commissioner, E Radhakrishana.
CCTVs will be installed facing police station officers (PSO), entrance and the other premises in the police station. Police said that if any cop is found not conducting his duty properly, strict action will be taken.
"We already have 15 CCTVs footage of which I monitor on the computer screen. Now, I got four more CCTVs installed and I can watch its live streaming from my smartphone. If I am away for work, I will be able to monitor my police station and staff constantly. This will help us in improving our efficiency," Shrimali told TOI.
A project to install CCTVs in the police station for monitoring the staff and improving police behaviour was initiated last year. A number of police stations have already been covered with CCTVs but none of them have live streaming on smartphones.
