Amnesty schemes promoting corruption, says Qadri

LAHORE - Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman Tahirul Qadri has said the Nawaz-government’s amnesty schemes are not eliminating corruption, rather promoting it.

Addressing the core committee members in Holland, France and Lahore via video link, the PAT chief said that the PML-N government was about to bring another amnesty scheme only to cover up its crimes of money laundering, tax evasion and other illegal activities it had been involved in.

He feared the national exchequer will benefit less and the rulers and their supporters will gain maximum benefit from this new scheme.

Dr Qadri announced a six-member committee of overseas Pakistanis that would look after the Model Town case in international forums. The committee will be headed by Khalid Mehmood and Dawood Mashadi from UK, and comprises from Holland Faisal Mirza and Tasneem Sadiq and from France Azhar Sadiq and Mohammed Azeem.

The committee will give the final draft after consultation with the British law firm employed for this purpose and then the issue will be raised at several international forums including International Criminal Court and United Nations and other human rights organisations.

Tahirul Qadri said that Pakistan has recorded a decline of 53 percent in domestic investment while the rich were busy in shifting their money abroad. Under such circumstances, he added, why any foreigner would come and invest in Pakistan.
