Colourful procession marks Narayana Guru birth anniversary

A colourful procession was taken out in Koppal on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of Brahmashri Narayana Guru. Artistes of various folk forms, a large number of women carrying “Poorna Kumbha Kalasa”, to the accompaniment of traditional bands, participated in the procession.

Speaking after inaugurating the function, Shekarappa Nagralli, Koppal Zilla Panchayat president, paid tributes to Narayana Guru and hailed him for his contribution to the welfare of the suppressed and oppressed classes. He said that Narayana Guru had also fought untouchability and animal sacrifice and had shown concern towards the welfare of society.

Delivering a special lecture, S. Shivaraj, principal, Government Pre-University College at Javalagera, said that Narayana Guru firmly believed that education could bring in the much-desired social reforms. He was also of the view that according priority to educating one’s children would be the greatest tribute to Narayana Guru.

Raghavendra Hitnal, MLA, presided over the function.
