A day after the wife of a local businessman and a domestic help was found murdered in posh Model Town locality, two accused were arrested by the police Wednesday evening. A former employee of the victim is believed to be the mastermind in the incident and he is still at large, police said.

Sharing information about the case, Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla said that the accused Ankush, a resident of Mithapur, was employed at businessman Prthipal Handa’s dairy shop. He had borrowed Rs 10,000 as advance which he never returned and was fired from the job. The police have arrested Ankush’s brother Vishal and friend Satish while the mastermind and two others are still at large. During the preliminary interrogation, it came to the fore that Ankush had planned to take revenge after he was fired.

The accused then motivated his brother and friends to rob the businessman’s house. They hatched a plan in such a way in which the entire blame for the crime falls on the servant’s head. But their plan went awry.

During the interrogation it has also came to light that they were also behind the blaze at Handa’s readymade garment store in Model Town last year. The accused had set ablaze the store as they wanted to rob the cash from there. Giving further information on how the case was cracked, the police commissioner said that the keys of the scooter in which they came to the spot helped them to solve the case.

“The accused had kept the safe which they robbed, in Handa’s vehicle on which they wanted to escape, but they failed to do so as the police reached the spot . The keys of their scooter fell in the vehicle as they fled the spot on their foot in a huff,” said Shukla. Police noticed the abandoned scooter and unlocked it with the keys they found inside the vehicle. Documents recovered from the scooter led the police to the accused.
