The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday asked the state government why investigation into the alleged dowry harassment against chief secretary O P Meena should not be given to the CBI.
Meena’s wife Geeta Singh Deo, who is an Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer, had moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe in the case, claiming the state police was not acting against her husband owing to his position.
Based on her petition, Justice Mohammad Rafique on Wednesday asked the Additional Advocate General to present the government’s view on a CBI probe in the matter.
The matter will be heard next on October 18.
“I believe the police cannot act against my husband since he is the chief secretary. That is why I want a CBI probe,” she told The Indian Express.
Singh Deo had filed a police complaint against her husband last year in September accusing him of harassing her for dowry.
Earlier this month, she had leveled fresh allegations against him for molesting their daughter.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Meena had denied the charges.
“There were dowry allegations, there was a maintenance case, there was a violence case, and now this. You should ask them if this is their final allegation or if there are some more, since these come in bits and pieces,” he had told The Indian Express then.
