Unlike Congress, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal steered clear of the desecration issue at the rally of Shiromani Akali Dal Badal Wednesday as he projected Congress and AAP as anti-Sikh.

The rally was hosted by the Ravinder Singh Brahmpura who won Khadoor Sahib by-election in a one-sided contest after Sikki resigned last year.

Launching an offensive at the Congress, Badal said: “There is no parallel in world history when the government of country had attacked its own religious shrine as done by Congress on Sri Darbar Sahib. Even no government could perpetrate the carnage of its own people as done by Congress in 1984 when several innocent Sikhs were mercilessly killed by mob at the behest of Congress leadership. Congress looted water of Punjab and didn’t give Chandigarh to us. If despite all this someone supports Congress, then that person is the enemy of Punjab.”

He also targeted AAP: “Just like Congress, AAP is also suffering from an anti-Sikh syndrome, which is reflected in the series of steps taken by its leadership. Both these parties were now bent on ruining the state. Forces, which want to disturb the hard-earned peace of state, were hobnobbing with these parties to bring back black days in the state.”

“AAP is a bunch of unprincipled leaders,” he added. Making an appeal to the people of Punjab, Badal said, “You must adopt a cautious approach for securing the future of your younger generations by supporting out alliance in upcoming polls.”

Festive offer

Interacting with the media later, the Chief Minister said former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has decided against floating political party as he was aware that people of the state would not support a person who has backstabbed his mother party. “Sidhu was changing his stand frequently in the hope of getting a better bargain with one or the other party. People know that a person who was not sincere to this mother party could never be loyal to them.”

Speaking ahead of the CM, Revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia termed Aam Aadmi Party as ‘PAAP’ party. ‘Punjab will suffer most in case of war’ Terming the Uri terror attack as an attack on sovereignty and integrity of country, Chief Minister Parkash Singh said: “It is a matter of foreign policy and it doesn’t look nice if every state started airing its views on the current situation and how we should deal with Pakistan.

The need of the hour is that the entire country should unite against such attack. He, however, cautiously added: “It is clear that in case of any war between India and Pakistan Punjab would naturally be the worst sufferer.”

Will reopen all desecration cases

ALMOST A year after its sitting MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned from the assembly in protest against the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib, Congress Wednesday said it will not let Sikki’s resignation over the issue go waste.

At its annual political rally at Khadoor Sahib to mark Gurta Gaddi Diwas of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh said: “I promise to punish all those responsible for desecration at all places. The Congress government will order reinvestigation in all desecration cases to find out the actual culprits. I will ensure that the resignation by the party MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki to protest against the issue did not go waste.” Blaming Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for all the desecration incidents in Punjab, Amarinder said, “There was a design in all this as Badal wanted to polarise people and create a sense of fear for his narrow partisan ends. I will ensure he is made to pay for his sins. I will make all of them, including Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, crawl on their knees to atone for their sins.”

Standing behind Sikki, the PPCC chief said, “I hope Ramanjit Singh Sikki would get party ticket from Khadoor Sahib again. There were only two claimants for ticket and both have taken their applications back. You all unit behind him. (Sonia Gandhi would take the final decision on ticket.”

Amarinder targeted “Aam Aadmi Party and its leader Arvind Kejriwal did not organise any programme at Khadoor Sahab today. Talking to the media later, he said, “That is why I have been saying they neither know nor can they understand Punjabi culture and history.” Taking a dig at Navjot Singh Sidhu on his announcement that he will not float a political party, he said, “Sidhu is opting out of political contest.
