After he allegedly stabbed a woman to death in a crowded market in north Delhi’s Burari Tuesday morning, Aditya Malik alias Surender Singh made a call to the police control room (PCR).

Malik allegedly informed the PCR, “Maine ek ladki ka murder kar diya hain…(I have murdered a girl)”.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (north district) Madhur Verma confirmed that Malik made a call to the PCR after allegedly killing the victim, Karuna, but refused to divulge further details.

The PCR call was made by Malik at 8.57 am, minutes before the onlookers alerted police, said sources, adding that the accused smashed his cell phone after the call.

During questioning, Malik has claimed that he and the victim were in a relationship for three years but it ended in 2015, said police sources.

Festive offer

On the complaint filed by Karuna’s family against Malik in May, accusing him of harassing her, a senior police officer said the victim had been reluctant to pursue the matter further.

“When a woman constable met the victim, she was reluctant to talk about the complaint… the family also decided not to pursue the case any further. After that, no other complaint was filed by the family,” added the officer.
