The quarters of Employees State Insurance (ESI) Hospital have turned into a ‘jungle’ after the growth of wild weeds during the monsoon season. Weeds like congress grass, which is a health hazard, can be seen flourishing in the grounds and backyards of the quarters. The weeds have also become a safe haven for rodents and snakes.

It is worth mentioning here that due to a choked drain at the backside of the quarter area, water gets accumulated on its premises. The stagnated water in the open area also helps in the growth of weeds. Inadequate drainage system in the quarters has also been aggravating the problem.

The authority of hospital, which is already running on staff shortage, is unable to control the weeds. Earlier, the hospital authorities took help of some NGOs to chop the weeds from the hospital premises. But the hospital failed to find any permanent solution to the problem.

Residents in the quarters have been complaining that several types of insects enter their houses due to unhygienic surroundings.

“The growth of weeds can’t be controlled as the sewerage water helps the plants to grow. The weeds are health hazards and we are facing several problems due to wild growth of weeds surrounding our houses. We have asked the hospital authorities to remove the weeds but to no avail,” said an employee residing in the quarters.
