Uddhav Thackeray attacks Modi again on Uri

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi again over the latter’s handling of Pakistan after the Uri attacks.

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi again over the latter’s handling of Pakistan after the Uri attacks. He said Modi should now fulfill the promises that he had made about combating terrorism, before becoming the Prime Minister of the country. Thackeray also said war should be waged keeping national importance in mind and not for the sake of votes.

“Now the time has come to fulfill promises which they made to the people of India during Lok Sabha elections. When are we going to give answer to Pakistan in their own language? When such attack happens, we condemn it for a few days and then forget about them,” Thackeray said during an interaction with journalists Wednesday.

He said it was time Pakistan was given a reply in the language it understood because talks with the neighbouring nation would be futile. “Talking with Pakistan won’t work now. It is now time to answer Pakistan in the language it understands. If war (with Pakistan) is to take place, it should be for well-being of the nation, not for votes. When will we finally understand Pakistan’s language,” Thackeray said.

He also claimed that many people felt there was no perceptible change in this government’s behaviour with Pakistan compared to the previous UPA regime. “If you keep doing what the previous government did, how can you say there is an atmosphere of change in the country? It seems the government is of the view that those who want to shed tears may do so, we will continue to go to Pakistan to have tea and continue to welcome their artists and sportspersons here,” said Thackeray.

The Sena chief also called for a special one-day session of Maharashtra legislature to address the grievances of the Maratha community. “Maratha leaders should come forward and voice their issues. There needs to be a discussion on the atrocities Act and their reservation issue. We expect NCP president Sharad Pawar to raise this issue in Parliament while we will raise it in the state legislature,” he said.
