CHENNAI: The sustained disease control efforts undertaken by the
health department has not only helped the state government to reduce
dengue cases in
Tiruvallur but also prevent the disease from taking root in the district again, says minister for health C Vijayabasker.
Speaking at an
awareness meet to tackle the spread of communicable diseases in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts on Wednesday, Vijayabasker said the state government was capable of tackling communicable diseases in a way in which even developed countries of the West fail to do.
"It is not like how you read it in newspapers that because there are mounds of garbage on the streets, so there will be disease," he said.
Commenting on the dengue outbreak in Tiruvallur, the minister said within a day of the situation being reported in newspapers, the state mechanism had flung into action to curb dengue.
