Lucknow: Describing rebel BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya's Lucknow rally as a flop-show, BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday said BJP national president Amit Shah cannot digest the fact that a dalit ki beti (a dalit woman) can live in a bungalow.
The former UP CM's comment follow Amit Shah's statement she owns a number of palatial bungalows in Delhi. The BJP national president, who was speaking at Maurya's maha parivartan rally, said the amount that Mayawati had spent on her palatial bungalows in Delhi could have fetched an air-conditioner each for all dalit families in UP.
The BSP boss trashed her former MLA's claim of a successful rally at Ramabai Rally Sthal in Lucknow on Wednesday. "He has tried to lure people by promising BJP tickets in the upcoming elections and misusing the names of dalit icons like Babasahed Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram but people saw through his hollow claims," she said.
Dismissing allegations of corruption levelled by Shah, Mayawati said it was a tactic of the BJP and the RSS to lace their public speeches with baseless accusations to mislead the public. "But people have seen through their designs which is why they lost elections in Delhi, Bihar and Bengal," she said, adding that the saffron brigade will meet a similar fate in UP polls as well.
Taking exception to Shah's claim that she was more concerned about attacks on dalits in Gujarat than their exploitation in UP, Mayawati said her party had been raising the issue in the state. "Our party has raised its voice against atrocities on every section of the society," Mayawati said.
Outlining erstwhile BSP government's zero tolerance stance towards crime, Mayawati said she never shied away from taking action against anyone, including her ministers, if they were accused of wrong-doing.
