Rally, mishap hamper traffic movement on two highways
Lucknow: Motorists on Rae Bareli Road had a tough time on Wednesday as hundreds of motor vehicles from neighbouring districts queued up on the busy national highway. Thousands of supporters had come to participate in a political rally organised by BJP leader Swami Prasad Maurya.
As the rally was at Rama Bai Rally Sthal, there was chaos on service lanes of Shaheed Path, Telibagh, Uthratiya, near Vrindavan Scheme, SGPGI and Cantt Road.
Between 11am and 2pm, it was difficult for people heading towards the city to negotiate traffic. Scores of buses and cars were also seen parked on the roadside, adding to the woes of commuters.
Meanwhile, traffic came to a grinding halt on Matiyari crossing because of sudden breakdown of a goods carrier which had occupied the road causing vehicles coming from Faizabad Road and Shaheed Path to get stuck. There was a cascading effect on the busy Polytechnic crossing for four hours on Wednesday.
"It took two hours for me to reach Shaheed Path from Polytechnic crossing. It is my daily route but today it was like hell. There was no traffic cop to mange the mess," said Namita.
