Ashok Kumar Sarial, Vice-Chancellor (VC), CSK HP Agriculture University, has said the vacant positions of scientists and technical staff at the research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) in the tribal areas would be filled up with the consent of the state government to strengthen the scientific activities.

He was addressing members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kukumseri, Lahaul & Spiti, on Monday.

The VC said the farmers of the district were hard working. He said with the efforts of the university, farmers were growing two crops in the short cropping season.

He said farmers were shifting from peas and other vegetables to exotic vegetables, so there was a need to research on the varieties of lettuce, broccoli, red cabbage and others, along with focusing on disease management and integrated nutrient management aspects, etc.

PK Mehta, Director of Extension Education, said the university was conducting special trainings for the farmers of tribal areas.
