PATNA: The state election commission (SEC) has directed the Saran district administration to take steps for delimitation of the wards of newly-created Chhapra Municipal Corporation. A similar directive has also been given to the Patna district administration to do the same in newly-formed Bakhtiarpur Nagar Parishad.
A SEC communiqué said, the directive was issued after the urban development and housing department (UDHD) vide its order issued on August 12, converted Chhapra Nagar Parishad into Chhapra Municipal Corporation (CMC).
The UDHD also converted Bakhtiarpur Nagar Panchayat into nagar parishad on September 2, it added.
As per the SEC directive, CMC will have 45 wards--one more than that was under Chhapra Nagar Parishad. On the other hand, Bakhtiarpur Nagar Parishad will have 27 wards, seven more than that in nagar panchayat.
The SEC communiqué said the delimitation work has to be done within a week, beginning September 24, while the entire process has to be completed by October 31, including gazette publication of the same by the UDHD. TNN
