More people are somehow betting on the 80-1 Knicks to win a ring than on the Warriors

It appears a lot of people are drinking Derrick Rose’s Kool-Aid.

Las Vegas’s Westgate SuperBook has released its NBA odds, and as expected, a lot of money is pouring in on the Golden State Warriors — according to ESPN, 60 percent of the cash spent on betting who will win an NBA title is on Kevin Durant’s new team.

But here’s a much more curious fact from that same post:

The Warriors, however, haven’t attracted the most overall bets to win the championship. At the SuperBook, more bets have been placed on the 80-1 longshot New York Knicks than any other team.

Whaaaat? Do people really believe what Rose said, that the Knicks are a “super team”?

Here’s one plausible explanation: Those 80-1 odds are huge, so perhaps bettors see value in a longshot. It’s unlikely, but they could see the new-look Knicks getting past a slightly older LeBron James in the East and somehow beating those aforementioned Warriors or the San Antonio Spurs. Never mind the fact that the Westgate set New York’s over/under win total at 38.5, which doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.

Or there are just a lot of Knicks fans trying to will their team to a ring by sacrificing some of their hard-earned cash.
