A 30-meter-tall landmark metal statue that is worth 30 million yuan ($4.5 million) collapsed while being relocated in the city of Dongguan, Guangdong province on Sept. 18, Guangdong TV reported. The crane that was lifting the upper section of the statue suddenly overturned, dropping the piece to the ground.
Built in 2014, the statue, titled "Natural Chaos," was designed by Belgian conceptual artist Arne Quinze, who is best known for his unconventional and controversial public art installations. The accident occurred as the structure was being moved, in preparation for its transit to Shanghai for an exhibition.
In addition to damaging the statue itself, the fall crushed several food stands and hit a bus station in the plaza. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
