Kozhikode: Members of the streechetana, womens fourm is planning to approach Mayor Thottathil Raveendran to take steps to create more awareness among public about the usage of electronic toilets reopened at fifteen locations following repair and relocations.
The decision was taken on the basis of a survey which was carried out among 200 respondents at Kozhikode beach, Mananchira and Kidson corner in July as part of e-toilet campaign by the forum revealed positive response from public.
During the survey it detected that 62 percent of respondent feel that making use of public toilets is not a shame. The survey also revealed that 86 percent of the respondents did not make use of the e-toilets so far. On the other hand, 33 percent answered that they were not aware about free toilet facilities and remaining 67 percent of them are aware about the free services. 57 percent of the respondent also replied that they felt difficulty at the time of using the e-toilets. To a question of what made them feel difficult at the time of using e-toilets, 68 percent of them replied that they faced issue of water scarcity at the time of using toilets. All the toilets were in working condition at the time of conducting survey in the end of July.
Dr K S Jayashree , general secretary of Streechetana said our effort and intensive campaign helped to create awareness among public. "The intensive campaign from the part of the civic body will bring more people to make use of the service. Unfortunately, Civic body has shown total negligence towards the cause and efforts were taken to improve the toilet facilities only when the forum taken up the issue before the Ombudsman to the LSG bodies. We will meet the mayor to ensure the effective functioning of the e-toilets,'' she said. S Narayanaswamy , G M of Eram Scientific Solutions said Of the 15, the water problem is there only at toilet set up at Mananchira. We have already registered the complaints with Kerala water authority to restore the water ,'' he said.Meanwhile, Corporation health standing committee chairman K V Baburaj said he is not aware about the unavailability of water and required measures will be taken to resolve the issue.
