Bazm e Urdu Qatar (BUQ) organised its monthly Tarahi Mushaira at PNTC Hall Wakra recently. The hall was packed with Urdu lovers.
Jamia Milia Islamia Alumni Founder and President Najmul Hasan Khan presided over the function. Renowned poet and author of more than six poetry books, Asif Shafi, was the chief guest, while visiting intellectual from Riyadh, Pervaiz Ahmed, brother of renowned poet Ahmed Ashfaq, was the guest of honour.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Qari Zahid Shaikh.
BUQ General Secretary Ahmed Ashfaq compered the programme along with BUQ Chairman Shaukat Ali Naz.
BUQ Treasurer and PR Raquim Azmi welcomed the guests. BUQ media secretary Mohmammad Tahir Jamil convened the Mushaira. Two ghazals from Amjad Ali Sarwar and Dr Aftab Mujahid, both from outside Qatar, were received through WhatsApp. The ghazals were recited by Ahmed Ashfaq and Shahid Sultan Azmi respectively.
Asif Shafi, Ahmad Ashfaq, Shaukat Ali Naz, Mansoor Azmi, Ijaz Haider, Tahir Jamil, Athar Azmi, Sadat Ali Sadat, Mohsin Habib, Raquim Azmi, Anmol Ittefaq, Zareef Baloch, Abbas Abbasi, Raza Hasan and Raza Naqvi were among the local poets who presented their Tarahi ghazals.
Najmul Hasan said that such gatherings that promote Urdu poetry are highly appreciated. He also appreciated Jamil's contribution.
"The standard of today's ghazals was very high and there are very good poets in Qatar," Hasan said."I came to know that many new poets have joined Bazm e Urdu which is a nursery for new poets and literary persons," said Shafi.
BUQ President Ijaz Haider proposed the vote of thanks. Prominent among those who attended the Mushaira were Dr Tauseef Hashmi, Anjuman e Mohiban e Urdu Hind President Khalid Dad khan, Anjuman e Mohiban e Urdu Hind Founder Ibrahim Khan, and renowned poets Shafeeq Akhtar, Asif Nakhuda and Osama Tahir.
