Appointment of consultants for 3 Metro projects gets nod

Besides, the executive committee of MMRDA, headed by Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, also approved the appointment of Ayesha Ingenieria Y Arquitectura S A U as the General Consultants for the 16.5-km Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East) Metro 7 corridor and the 23.6-km Metro-2B corridor.

An official from the MMRDA said the DMRC is expected to prepare tender documents, invite tenders and assist it in evaluation of the tenders for Metro-2B and Metro-4 corridors. The general consultant appointed for the Metro-2B and Metro 7 corridors is expected to supervise construction at various levels including depot and systems work.

“Today’s decisions clearly indicate the intent of the State Government. It is about Mumbai, Mumbaikars and their commuting comfort. Considering the ever-growing population, growing number of vehicles in the city, overcrowded suburban rails and the loss of human life caused by the congestion in local trains, Metro Rail appears to be the perfect solution and that is what the state is catering to,” said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

The MMRDA has also planned four flyovers and a road at Dharavi to decongest the Kalanagar junction and help the choked BKC. “In the first phase, there will be two flyovers — one from BKC to Sea Link and another from Sea Link to BKC — to be supported by a stilt road, on a government land that will run from Dharavi towards Sea Link. The two other flyovers — one from BKC to Western Express Highway and another from Dharavi to Western Express Highway — will be implemented in the second phase,” said Madan.

Currently, the MMRDA has also appointed M/s Simplex Infrastructure Ltd to construct two flyovers and a road in the first phase. Additionally, it approved the appointment of M/s Padeco Co Ltd as General Consultants to monitor and supervise design and construction of two elevated roads to clear traffic chaos at the BKC and Santacruz-Chembur junctions.

Officials said M/s Padeco is expected to supervise the construction of the two elevated roads — 1.3-km elevated road from MTNL junction to LBS Flyover that will clear BKC and the 3.89-km elevated road from Kurla (Kapadia Nagar) to Vakola near Western Express Highway, which will help decongest SCLR junction.
