Massive gridlocks: Scattered rains create traffic mess

Light showers expected in various parts of Lahore

LAHORE: Traffic gridlocks were witnessed on major roads of Lahore following scattered downpour on Tuesday.

Power failures in different areas increased the plight of the public as dozens of Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) feeders tripped.

Rainwater inundated various localities, including Lakshmi Chowk, Copper Road, Kashmir Road, Mall Road, Davis Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton Road, Grand Trunk Road and Ghari Shahu. Long queues of vehicles were seen on Mall Road, Lawrence Road, Davis Road, Shadman, Ferozepur Road, Walton Road, Zahoor Elahi Road and Mauj Darya Road.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said 27 millimetres of rain were recorded on Jail Road and other parts of the city.

He said light rain was expected in scattered areas of the city. However, there are limited chances of heavy rain during the next 48 hours.



PMD’s weather forecast reveals that hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain and thunderstorms are expected in isolated parts of Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

However, rain and thunderstorms are expected in scattered parts of Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
