The scene was no different in Yavatmal’s Garad village where the last rites of Sepoy Vikas Janardhan Kulmethe were performed.

Holding her eight-month-old daughter close, Vikas Kulmethe’s wife, Neha, broke down as her husband’s coffin arrived in the morning. The martyr’s parents, Janardan and Vimal, wept inconsolably clutching their son’s coffin. As a mark of respect to the slain sloider, several shops in the area remained shut Tuesday.
