A startling 20 wickets fell on day one of the Specsavers County Championship Division Two match between Leicestershire and Glamorgan, at Leicester.

The hosts were bowled out for just 96 in 29.3 overs as Timm van der Gugten returned 5-25 before Glamorgan stuttered to 199 all out, thanks largely to Kiran Carlson's unbeaten fifty.

The 18-year-old played without fear, reaching 74 off just 74 balls and hitting 12 fours before he ran out of partners.

When Leicestershire went back in the conditions were put into context when Angus Robson (42no) and Paul Horton (28no) compiled an unbroken opening partnership of 78.

Joe Clarke's sixth first-class hundred of the season helped Worcestershire to 255-6 against Derbyshire on day one at New Road.

Clarke (117no) celebrated his inclusion in the England Lions squad for their winter programme by moving to three figures off 200 balls with 13 fours and one six after Brett D'Oliveira and Tom Fell were dismissed by Tom Milnes in the opening 12 overs.

He was well supported by skipper Daryl Mitchell who reached 1,000 first-class runs for 2016 in his benefit year and continued the upturn in fortunes he has enjoyed in recent weeks.

Mitchell (67) looked on course for a third successive hundred at New Road until he was trapped lbw by Ben Cotton via a delivery which jagged back.

George Rhodes (16) was caught behind off Cotton after adding 59 in 23 overs with Clarke, who lofted Wayne Madsen for a straight six before a quickly taken single off Hughes took him to his hundred.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (nine), who came into the game on the back of successive pairs against Glamorgan and Sussex, was bowled by Tony Palladino after shouldering arms.

Gloucestershire recovered from 97-7 to finish day one against Sussex on 201-7 thanks to an unbroken stand of 104 runs between Chris Dent (86no) and David Payne (48no), at Bristol.
