Agra: Depressed over being harassed and tortured for dowry, a woman jumped in front of train with her one and half year-old daughter in Vrindavan of Mathura district.
Identified as Rama Yadav, resident of Kotwali Vrindavan, the woman allegedly committed suicide at around 9am. The toddler suffered grave injuries and is critical.
Speaking to TOI, station officer of Kotwali Vrindavan Manish Chandra said, “The body of woman has been sent to mortuary, while the kid has been admitted to district hospital.
On the basis of woman’s father Ramvir Singh's statement, we have lodged an FIR against woman’s husband and in-laws under dowry death.”
Ramvir said, “As per Ramvir, his son-in-law Gopal Yadav and relatives used to assault and mentally harass Rama for dowry. They even taunted her for giving birth to a girl child. She was in deep trauma over the continuous harassment. She didn’t commit suicide but was killed.”
After the incident, the accused Gopal, his father Mohan Singh and mother Mitlesh are absconding.
In another incident, on intervening night of Sunday and Monday, an Aligarh Muslim University BSc final year student allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of speeding train near Charra Adda Bridge in Aligarh district.
Identified as Radheshaym, the 25-year-old student hailed from Kharparva village of Khampur police jurisdiction of Deoria district, UP.
As per V R Dixit, station officer of Gandhipark, we haven’t received any written complaint from student’s family member in the incident. Once they file their complaint, we will investigate the matter, as why did the student ended his life.
