Superintendent of Police (SP) Miraz Uddin said the men were nabbed during a raid on Jamiatul Quran Cadet Madrasa in the early hours of Tuesday at the Upazila's Erandah Bazar.

He identified the four as Joynal Abedin, his two sons Borhan Uddin and Imran Ali, and Abu Bakkar Siddique.

At a press briefing in his office in the afternoon, Miraz Uddin said police seized 10 crude bombs, many raw materials used to make bombs and 30 books on extremism from the madrasa.

"During preliminary questioning, the militants said they had gathered at the madrasa to recruit members, collect funds, distribute the books and decide their next move," he said.

He also claimed that the arrestees had admitted to being operatives of the JMB, the militant outfit that was banned in February 2005.

The SP said Abedin was the JMB's district unit chief and Siddique was its treasurer.

Abedin's relative Raihan Uddin was arrested in Bogra for his suspected involvement in militant activities. He is in jail.
