WHAT HAPPENED

Pahalwan spoke to Mail Today and said some locals were beating a BJP supporter Yogesh Bidhuri outside his office on Monday morning. He said, he intervened and saved the supporter but instead of thanking him, Yogesh registered an FIR against the AAP MLA.

"BJP is planting a case against me. Everyone in the area knows that I helped the man but he gave a complaint against me," Pahalwan told Mail Today.

In the 2015 Delhi assembly elections, Pehalwan had wrested the seat from BJP's Vikram Bidhuri by a margin of more than 32,000 votes. Within the inner circles of AAP, Pehalwan is considered to be strongman and a big time political player.

He had switched from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit barely days ahead of the elections. Pahalwan claims that he has informed the party officials who have assured to give him support.

Although Pehalwan was a winnable candidate, his candidature was protested by members within the party. Former member of AAP's Political Action Committee (PAC) Prashant Bhushan had severely objected to his candidature and urged party Chief Arvind Kejriwal to replace him. However, the repeated pleas made by Bhushan were ignored by AAP leadership.

Pehalwan is not only considered to be a tainted leader, but also had two FIRs registered against him.
