HYDERABAD: Assaulted and publicly humiliated by members of his residential society for allegedly misbehaving with a woman, a temple priest committed suicide at his house at
Chintal on Monday. The deceased was identified as V Bhaskar Krishna Swaroop, 25, priest at
Sri Narayana Kshetram temple at
Padma Nagar Phase II.
On Sunday, elders of his colony confronted Swaroop for allegedly misbehaving with a woman from the neighbourhood.
"According to the complaint lodged by Swaroop's family, the society members assaulted him and forced him to remove the 'Bhavani mala' despite his father begging them not to do so,"
Petbasheerabad inspector
D V Ranga Reddy said.
In his suicide note, Swaroop said sorry to his father for damaging his reputation. "Swaroop wrote that he could neither be a good son nor a good priest. He told sorry to his father for not letting him live with honour. He wrote he was going to leave the world and meet Sweta," police said, quoting the note. Police were yet to ascertain who Sweta was.
Swaroop's family members and friends staged a protest at the Petbasheerabad police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
