2016 has been the year of splits and divorces for Kollywood, Bollywood alike. The South Industry has had quite a few shocks, as some unexpected couples have gone separate ways. There's the shocking Amala Paul- AL Vijay split, Amrita Suresh-Bala divorce, and most recently, Rajinikanth's daughter - Soundarya's separation from her husband, Ashwin Ramkumar. It was in July when the South Industry heard of the shocking news - Amala Paul and AL Vijay were going separate ways after two years. It was in 2014, the couple got married in a grand ceremony, and now two years later, they have headed separate ways. Speculations were rife about the reasons for the split - AL Vijay-parent's interference, lifestyle differences, Amala choosing career over marriage. AL Vijay finally opened up about the split and issued a press statement. He clarified that his parents were not the reason, and neither were any lifestyle differences the reason. In fact, he went on to imply that there had been a breach of commitment. While, there has been no confirmations, there have been alleged reports of cheating on Amala Paul's side. Soundarya Rajinikanth-Ashwin Ramkumar

Most recently, Rajinikanth's daughter, Soundarya applied for divorce at the family court. She was married to industrialist Ashwin in 2010. It turns out, the couple has been facing issues for quite sometime now, further when Rajinikanth came down from his US break, he tried to intervene but looks like the couple has made their decision. In fact, Soundarya even took to Twitter to confirm the news. She went to reveal how they had been living separately for a year now and were now heading for a divorce. The couple have son together - Ved, who recently turned one.

Amruta Suresh-Bala

Another couple that headed for splitsville was actor-singer duo. They got married in 2010 and now five years later, they are heading separate ways. They met on the sets of a reality show where Amruta was a participant and the Bala was a judge. They have a daughter together by the name Avanthika. The reports of their divorce surfaced much earlier but the singer denied it outright, it was only later Bala himself confirmed the news.

Divya Unni-Sudhir Shekharan
This was by far the most shocking split of Mollywood when Divya Unni announced her split from husband of 14 years. Earlier reports suggested, it was Sudhir's extra marital affair that caused the split, but turns out, he wasn't too happy about Divya Unni's career taking off. In fact, he wanted to shut down her dance school, which she refused to do so.

Priyadarshan- Lissy split

Although the couple have been living separately for a while now, it was only on Friday that the divorce proceedings officially ended. Amid all the splits that happened, reportedly, this was a bitter face off between the couple. Lissy in a statement to the media thanked her well wishers for support through this tough time. She also mentioned that she was relieved about the divorce. Reports stated that ego issues had caused the split between Priyadarshan and his wife.
