RAIPUR: In a major breakthrough, five Maoists were arrested from Korsaguda forests in
Bijapur district of Bastar division on Monday. Four of them were found to be involved in murder of journalist Sai Reddy, who was killed with sharp-edged weapon near a market in December 2013.
The Maoists were arrested during an ongoing search under joint operation by district police and CRPF in forests of Korsaguda near village Lingagiri when five of them were arrested on suspicion.
Those arrested were identified as Punem
Gandhi, militia commander, Dodi Chetu, Militia member, Kakem Lakhmu, militia member,
Dodi Aytu, militia member and Punem Lachu, commander.
When interrogated, all the five told police that they belonged to banned outfit of
Communist Party of India (Maoists) and also admitted that Gandhi, Chetu, Lakhmu and Lachu were involved in killing of journalist Sai Reddy. Police have also recovered country knife from the possession of Gandhi and he was also involved in murders and attempt to murder cases.
Sai Reddy was stuck in a tiff between police and Maoists and was also arrested in 2008 for having links with Maoists. Meanwhile, rebels had torched his house. He was constantly threatened by Maoists for being police informer and later he was killed at a weekly market in Bijapur.
