Girls stop youths from rain dance filming, beaten up
CHINSURAH: Five city girls were assaulted for protesting against ogling youths taking photographs of them raindancing at a Chinsurah theme park on Sunday .
The girls, in their early 20s, are social science students of different city institutions who accompanied their private tutor to the Chinsurah park popular for raindancing. Creek Row resident Seema Dutta, the private tutor who teaches at Baghbazar Women's College, has lodged complaints with Muchipara police station and sent a speed post of the same to Hooghly SP Pravin Tripathy .
Hooghly Police is yet to arrest any of the unidentified youths even 24 hours after the alleged attack."We are gathering information and will probe it," said Tripathy .
On spotting five-six youths taking photographs of them in the rain-dance area of Chinsurah's Aqua Marina theme park, the girls screamed aloud. This alerted security guards of the park who pounced on the youths and seized their mobile phones. The phones were returned after the objectionable photographs were deleted. This enraged the youths who vent their ire on the girls. The gang attacked the girls, targeting five of Dutta's students.They were beaten up severely .The park management informed Chinsurah police station but by the time cops reached the spot, the youths had fled.
"Ever since this park was established, I have been making annual trips here with my tuition class students. I am shocked that this year's trip turned out to be such an ordeal. They were simply enjoying their dance in the park. But some young boys entered the area and started taking photographs. We objected vehemently. While the security guards responded to our call, the youths we re furious for daring to protest. Five of my students were beaten," said Dutta.
Park ow ner Abhijit Biswas said, "While I did not witness any assault, I was present when some women objected to being photographed rain-dancing. I ensured that my security guards seized the culprits' mobiles and deleted those photos. After this incident, I will have to seriously consider whether the park should continue to have this rain-dance facility."
