Urban development and housing minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat takes jibe at own department

JAIPUR: Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, minister for urban development and housing pulled no punches in taking a jibe at his own department on issues of corruption and inefficiency.
Addressing a workshop organized for the officials of local self-government department (LSG) on Monday, minister said that he is ashamed to head this department where corruption is rampant.
Taking potshots at the working of the department, Shekhawat said that only two things exist here, thieving and slacking.
Pointing directly at Manjit Singh, principal secretary, LSG, the minister said, "I feel ashamed. Everywhere people talk about corruption that is thriving in this department and how much money has been given and taken".
He did not stop just at that. He even raised questions over intentions to organize this workshop. "These seminars won't help. What is needed is commitment but it is just not there," added Shekhawat. Admitting that LSG has failed to derive desired results from Swachh Bharat Mission, the minister reprimanded the officials but appreciated efforts in Dungarpur.
"Lack of manpower and resources are same everywhere. How come Dugarpur managed to do good work while all others failed?"asked Shekhawat.
