Even before the cruiser XDiavel could hit Ducati’s all Indian dealers, the bike has been sold out, reports Geeta Nair in Pune. Ravi Avalur, MD, Ducati India, confirmed bookings for the bike have exceeded supplies although he would not say exactly how many had been sold. The bikes are priced anywhere between Rs 15.7 lakh and Rs 18.5 lakh and most of them have been picked up by motor sports enthusiasts, many of them from Bengaluru.
The Italian bike maker, which made a comeback of sorts to India in early 2015 with a direct presence, also sells super-premium bikes costing upwards of Rs 55 lakh. “We’ve sold a handful of these,” Avalur said. Most of Ducati’s bikes are priced in the range of between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 55 lakh range with those costing between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh being the most popular.
Between April and August this year, some 2,200 bikes in the 500cc to 600cc category were sold; these typically cost around Rs 5-10 lakh. Volumes reported in the 800cc-1,000 cc category, and priced at around Rs 12-15 lakh, were 600.
The bigger segment — 1000 cc plus — clocked in volumes of 600. Cruisers account for a fairly large chunk of the premium motorcycle category in India.
