Love all?

WHILE Leander Paes is being slammed by Sania Mirza’s and Rohan Bopanna’s unnamed tweets for critiquing their mixed doubles pairing at the Rio Olympics (Mirza went on to call her unnamed offender a “toxic person”), his cup of woes is spilling over. His legal battle with wife Rhea Pillai continues even as both hurl allegations against each other. But his ‘friendship’ with 25-year-old Tanvi Shah remains undeterred and unfettered. Onlookers have seen them together at the recent Davis Cup in New Delhi. Pillai, on her part, says she doesn’t mind if he has moved on and hopes the courts will give her what’s due to her in good time. “Leander and Tanvi have been in a relationship for the last three years. I wish them well,” she says. Paes was on a flight to St Petersburg when we called him, but his press relations company says: “Leander is not dating anyone exclusively at this point. Tanvi has been a national champion in tennis at the junior level. She understands the sport really well and was the reason she’s been hired to manage Leander’s work at his current sports manager team. She’s been working with him for several years now and so yes is often seen at tournaments with him.” Curiously, Shah worked with the company that handled Paes’ press relations before she moved jobs to start working with the company that manages his sports career.

Birthday banter

IN an unusual but happy detour, SoBo’s most famous ladies made their way to a popular Chinese establishment at BKC. It was by the invitation of Tulsi Chellaram, who was celebrating her birthday with the glamazons. Priya Aswani, Lata Patel, Anita Khilnani, Dilshad Khambata, Bindu Mittal, Sunaina Wahi, Bonita Bulchandani, Sonali Dalwani and the reclusive but breath-taking beauty Nisha Javeri came together for what seemed like a fun Sunday brunch, raising their glasses to the livewire birthday girl. While the ladies picked at their dim sum, Tulsi’s sister-inlaw Namrata (she’s married to Tulsi’s brother Kumar Gaurav) seemed to have missed the bonhomie.

Mum’s the word

EVEN though they’re going blue in the face denying it, murmurs of Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani being more than just good friends refuse to abate. More so since both of them holidayed at a secret location a few weeks ago, and posted individual pictures in what is obviously the same garden. News comes in that Tiger’s parents Ayesha and Jackie and his effervescent sis Krishna joined them too. But all doesn’t look good in the hood, we hear Ayesha couldn’t bear Disha’s guts and the two ladies barely exchanged a word through the trip.

Timeless threads

NOT many may remember that Kavita Durazi, former wife of reticent designer Shahab Durazi is also an accomplished designer herself. She met Shahab while they were both designing for Glitterati, one of Mumbai’s first fashion boutiques. With marriage and children, her career took a backseat, and the focus had been on Shahab’s work. But since the two gentle souls have separated, Kavita has found herself making her subtle, sophisticated clothes again. For the past two years, she sells at private exhibitions, like Zeba Kohli’s annual fair, and is now showing at a pop-up in Dubai. “I’ve been designing very quietly,” Kavita smiles as she talks of her delicate embroideries on luxury fabrics. “I’ve also started my own studio at Opera House.” From what we hear the lady has a growing and an exclusive clientele already. We’re not entirely surprised.

Tailpiece

RAAZ (REBOOT) KI BAAT

A leading production house recently announced one of their most ambitious projects with a top-billed actor with whom they have done a couple of very successful films in the past. Joining the superstar in the cast is also an industry patriarch. So far, so good. Now we hear that the production house wants to sign on a leading lady who is 28 years younger than the A-lister. The young girl is a top heroine in her own right, she is flattered but aghast at the thought of having to romance a 50-plus hero. She knows it may be great for his career, but she is not sure what it will do to hers.
