MUMBAI:
Shiv Sena mouthpiece
Saamna on Monday called upon the Narendra
Modi government to strike Pakistan following the fidayeen attack on an Army camp at
Uri along the
Line of Control on Sunday that left 19 soldiers dead.
In a hard-hitting editorial on Monday, Saamna recalled that US SEALs had entered Pakistan to kill
Osama bin Laden. "If the Modi government lacks courage and fails to enter Pakistan then the Centre’s global prestige is of no profit to the country,” it said.
Saamna wondered if the warning given by Modi, whom it described as ‘Jagad Vikhyaat’, would have any sobering effect on Islamabad.
Later in the day, senior Sena leader
Sanjay Raut's statement that the Modi government should plan a final crackdown against Pakistan went viral on the social networking media.
According to political experts, the Saamna editorial is an indication that the Sena will up its ante against the
NDA government on the issue of Pakistan-backed terror in order to dent the BJP's Hindutva votebank ahead of the 2017 civic elections across the state.
Saamna also demanded dismissal of the
Mehbooba Mufti government in J&K. “Even Dr Subramanian Swamy has said the BJP-PDP experiment in J&K has failed,” Saamna said.
