No illegal construction in Sainik Farms: Police
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday informed the high court that it did not come across any unauthorised construction in Sainik Farms during the three-day inspection carried out on court orders.
In a reply, DCP south told HC that he visited the area on September 7 and 10 and inspected a few properties against which complaints were filed and only found minor repair and drainage work being carried out.
The DCP said there are 20 entry points to Sainik Farms and to keep tab on illegal constructions all the points are manned by MCD staff/guards, assisted by local police constables.
“At present there are CCTV cameras installed at three main entry gates and MCD is going to install cameras at all entry points. Local police has taken action in at least 55 cases on inputs from beat staff, MCD officials and other sources,” police added.
In his reply the senior police officer told the court that he met the RWA functioning within Sainik Farms and encouraged them to report any unauthorised construction to the police. “As per general perception and feedback from RWA, presently no unauthorised construction work was on,” police said. Earlier this month HC directed the DCP to visit Sainik Farms and submit a report on the alleged ongoing illegal construction work and even hinted at a CBI inquiry against municipal or police officials under whose watch rampant unauthorised construction came up in the area.
The bench said it will take a decision on the CBI probe on September 21 after examining the report submitted by SDMC.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO on the illegal constructions in the area. There is a blanket ban on any construction in Sainik Farms since 2001, following a HC order. Even the entry of construction material in the area is banned , which was supposed to be checked by SDMC and south Delhi Police.
