AHEAD OF Manas Bhunia being formally inducted in the Trinamool Congress on Monday, TMC leaders were reportedly warned not to make any derogatory comments against the Sabang MLA.

In a meeting conducted by Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee and party vice-president Mukul Roy, the MLAs were reportedly asked not to pass any derogatory remarks against Bhunia. Sources said that at the meeting, some MLAs expressed their discontent regarding Bhunia joining Trinamool.

“One MLA said that during the Assembly elections earlier this year, after opposing the alliance between Congress and Left Front initially, Bhunia had come out all guns blazing for the alliance and against Trinamool. He had also hugged CPM leader Surjya Kanta Mishra in public and said Trinamool leaders had tried to ensure Mishra’s defeat from Narayangarh in West Midnapore,” the source said.

It was learnt that Chatterjee asked the MLAs to take advantage of Bhunia’s experience, who had been an MLA for six times.

“Chatterjee had said Bhunia’s induction into the party has been cleared by party chief Mamata Banerjee so people should refrain from passing any derogatory comments. Strict action will be taken if this was not followed,” a senior leader present at the meeting said.
