AAP MLA Sahiram Pehalwan faces FIR, booked by Delhi Police for scuffle and threatening

New Delhi, Sep 19: Another Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA has been booked by Delhi Police. FIR has been regislator against Sahiram Pehalwan for scuffling and threatening someone. More details in the case are awaited. Pehalwan is the legislator from Tughlakabad constituency. In the 2015 Delhi assembly elections, Pehalwan had wrested the seat from BJP’s Vikram Bidhuri by a margin of more than 32,000 votes. Within the inner circles of AAP, Pehalwan is considered to be strongman and a big time political player. He had switched from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit barely days ahead of the elections.

Although Pehalwan was a winnable candidate, his candidature was protested by members within the party. The then member of AAP’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Prashant Bhushan had severely objected to his candidature and urged party chief Arvind Kejriwal to replace him. However, the repeated pleas made by Bhushan were ignored by AAP leadership. Pehalwan is not only considered to be a tainted leader, but also had two FIRs registered against him. However, his strong appeal among the Gurjar community compelled AAP leadership to ignore the apprehensions raised against him being awarded the ticket.

Although more details in the case are awaited, the kind of track record which Pehalwan has, cannot allow AAP spokespersons to readily claim innocence in matter. (ALSO READ: AAP MLA Sarita Singh caught in bribery scandal: Delhi Police registers complaint for allegedly taking Rs 9 lakh bribe)

Several AAP MLAs have been booked by Delhi Police over the past few months in a number of cases. The most recent complaint was registered against AAP MLA Rohtas Nagar Sarita Singh. She was accused by an AAP volunteer named Shakeel of extracting Rs 9 lakh bribe from him in promise of job. The complainant alleged that no job was provided to him by the legislator.

In the past week, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti was booked by Delhi Police for misbehaving and inciting mob assault against AIIMS guards.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has cried conspiracy in most of the cases, and accused Delhi Police of working on behest of Centre. However, in the case of Sandeep Kumar, Kejriwal was left embarrassed after the surfacing of sex CD in the media. He was forced to shun the tainted minister from the cabinet. Subsequently, AAP terminated his primary membership from the party.
