Donegal’s Declan Boyle [Fiesta WRC] won the Hyundai Limerick Motor Centre Clare Rally, the penultimate round of the Triton Showers National RallyChampionship, on Sunday.

Co-driven by his cousin Brian Boyle, Boyle finished 56.8 seconds ahead of the similar car of Clonmel’s Roy White and his Cork co-driver James O’Brien. Monaghan’s Josh Moffett/James Fulton [Fiesta R5] were 5.2 seconds further behind in third.

Posting the quickest time on the opening pair of stages Moffett led Boyle by 27.3 seconds. Boyle was best through the third stage to trim the margin to 21.3 seconds.

Peadar Hurson, who began the second loop of stages in fourth place, crashed out after his Subaru punctured on the fourth stage.

Moffett completed the latter part of the fifth stage with a puncture as Boyle moved into top spot.

Without any further drama Boyle went on to secure his fourth win of the season. White, best on the Power Stage, edged out Moffett for second.

The Fiesta R5 duo of Monaghan’s Stephen Wright and Dundalk’s Brendan Cumiskey completed the top five.

Cavan’s Chris Armstrong [Escort] won the Modified category as Meath’s Trevor Mulligan [Ford Escort] took valuable points in the chase for the rally.ie and the Triton Showers Mk 2 Challenge Trophy.

The Group N category was won by Tyrone’s Aidan Wray [Mitsubishi], who finished some 40 seconds ahead of Monaghan’s Shane Maguire [Mitsubishi].

Meanwhile, in the Junior category of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship, Donegal’s Michael Boyle [Honda Civic] took an emphatic victory as both his rivals, Gary McNamee [Honda Civic) and Colin Roche (Toyota Starlet) failed to finish.  Boyle and McNamee will now battle for the title on the final round in Donegal in early October.
