The Grey Gatsby could return to Chantilly for a tilt at next month's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Kevin Ryan's stable star claimed Classic glory in the 2014 French Derby at the Paris circuit, three months before doubling his Group One tally in the Irish Champion Stakes.

The five-year-old is winless in the subsequent two years and has endured a particularly frustrating campaign this season, missing several engagement on account of testing ground, the latest being Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup at Newbury.

Ryan has given his charge an entry in Friday's Mukhadram Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket, but admits a return to France nine days later would be tempting if his favoured conditions prevail.

"We've put him in the Arc, so we'll see," said the Hambleton-based trainer.

"I have entered for a Listed race at Newmarket next Friday, but whether that would come too close to the Arc, I'm not sure. I need to discuss it with his owner.

"I think we'd be keen to go to the Arc if he got his ground. It's obviously at Chantilly this year, which is where he won the French Derby."
